Amazing Ways of Maintaining Good Mental Health

by Hugh Bradstreet on April 2, 2012

Mental Health is a continuous concern of the human population. Not a day goes by without featuring a news report of someone having a mental breakdown and performing some unspeakable act towards themselves or others. Each day we are faced with stressors and the daily pressures of life that may affect our state of mind. The good news is that multitudes of activities are available to undertake that will assist in maintaining our mental stability and emotional well-being. Regardless of personal interests, there is sure to be something that will please just about everyone.

For the computer-savvy or curious, try out Help Desk software to learn more about programming, or perhaps try going to work for an SEO agency. You may also get paid to take surveys, which is a good way to place your opinions about products and services in the marketplace. When keeping the mind active with things that bring about good feelings, you improve your mental well-being. Additionally, there is a physiological connection between happiness and health; the two work in tandem with one another.

If you experience happiness by giving to others, consider giving baseball gloves to a local youth organization. Personalized gifts, business gifts, or toddler bedding sets are excellent items to provide to others. There is always someone in need and often you recognize the need without asking. Sometimes you just have to keep your ears perked to pick up on subtle clues and hints. Possibly, you know someone getting married. Some great news is that fireworks are not just for the Fourth of July. It could be a lot of fun to provide wedding sparklers to enhance the special occasion.

Satisfy the adventurous side of your life by dressing to the hilt when you next go to the rodeo or have a night out on the town. Western wear, leather belts, and Indiana Jones hats make a quite impressive look. Appearance affects how we feel as well. Dressing sharply helps you feel more confident in dealing with your surroundings. If you are looking for a more relaxed style, try out a nice pair of pants and a bowling shirt. Then for competitive yet friendly interaction, sign up on a bowling league. It is great fun and a wonderful way to make new friends and pick up a new hobby.

A great activity that allows you to express yourself the way you want is scrapbooking. It lets you preserver personal or family history in a meaningful and unique way. The tradition of scrapbooks has been around since Fifteenth Century England, known as a commonplace book. The name has changed, but the principle is still the same. People keep track of photos, poems, events, and other things relevant to their existence. No matter what you find to keep your brain occupied, there is always something to keep positive mental health within your grasp.

What is Lyme Disease

by Neva Mcmenamin on May 11, 2012

Lyme disease is caused by a nasty bacterium known as Borrelia burgdorferi and is primarily spread through the bites of insects infected with the disease. These insects attach themselves to the skin in several areas of the human body. Because the insects or ticks are attracted to areas such as the groin, scalp and armpits, they are not always easy to spot. According to medical professionals, an infected insect will need to be attached to the human body for at least 36 hours before transmission of Lyme disease is possible. Immature ticks, known as Nymphs, are usually responsible for the infection of this disease between humans. Unfortunately, because the average nymph is around 2mm in size, it is impossible for humans to spot them on their skin. There is currently no evidence that Lyme disease is passed on from person-to-person.

Symptoms of Lyme disease usually include a rash, which expands rapidly in a circular pattern, fatigue, aching joints and muscles, sickness and swollen lymph nodes. Severe instances of these symptoms may indicate chronic Lyme disease, which is why it is important to seek medical advice immediately. Individuals, who have traveled to areas of the world where the disease is common, should inform medical staff immediately on arrival at the practice or hospital.

In chronic cases of the disease, it is possible for individuals to suffer after effects for months and even years after treatment has finished. It is also possible for sufferers to go on to suffer from conditions such as Bell’s palsy and arthritis. These symptoms are believed to be caused by a problem with the person’s immune system, rather than an ongoing attack from the bacterium. This is why it is essential individuals following all treatment prescribed, even if their symptoms have dissipated or disappeared altogether. Lyme disease is much more likely to cause serious long-term effects if it is left untreated. More about this disease can be learned at the Lyme Disease Blog
